Ann Benson

I have a passionate commitment to sharing my love of music with you and your child. Thank you for your interest in Musical Beginnings, I hope you join us!

Musical Beginnings is dedicated to two very important people in my life. The first is my mother who has been singing to me from the cradle to the present. Her voice and the love that pours forth, inspires and nurtures my Heart and spirit. Plus, it's so fun singing with her in the car when we go on our vacations together!!!

The second dedication is my niece Jennifer. I have been singing with Jenny since she was a little baby. We are "singing pals"! We sang every song I knew for kids, starting with "5 Little Monkeys" to "You Are My Sunshine" to "Wheels on the Bus", every night in the bath tub!!! Bath time was music time!!! The music bonded us so closely, that to this day she calls me from Texas to sing with me over the phone, the same old favorite tunes!

My mother and my neice Jennifer, taught me the power of music to heal and to transmit love.

I have been an educator of young children and adults for over thirty years and have a profound love and commitment to teaching. I have always had a passion for music and movement. From sixth grade, through high school and college and to this day as a member of the Master Chorale, I have been singing, and dancing and singing and dancing!!

I have a BS in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Bilingual Education from the University of Texas, and an International Montessori degree. In addition, I have many years of informal training in voice, piano and dance.

I have been teaching parent-child music and language programs since 1997 both in my private studio and at Lynne University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, the University of Miami, Spanish Academy Charter Elementary in Boca Raton and Virginia Shuman Young Elementary in Fort Lauderdale. My son Ben was a member of the internationally acclaimed Singing Sons Boy Choir where I was a volunteer and I sing second soprano for the Master Chorale.

All My Best,

My earliest musical memory is telling my Dad, at age four, that my favorite song was a popular Simon & Garfunkel tune. In fact, I had a lot of music to choose from. My father was a professional musician and educator and whether it was jazz, classical, musicals or live music, there was always something playing in the background. My mother, a kindergarten teacher, also greatly enjoyed music and she gently nudged my siblings and me in the direction of piano lessons. Flute playing in middle and high school bands replaced the piano lessons and I sang in the high school choir.

When I was six I had the distinct opportunity to participate in a professional singing duo. We were living in Spain and this being the 70’s, all things American were cool. This duo “Café con Leche” comprised an eleven-year old African American boy and me. We made records, performed on television and made special appearances. My ability to sing in tune, carry a melody and move to the rhythm came from all of the informal music education I received at home, very much like the Music Together® program. That’s one reason I’m such a big fan of the program!

But what really brought me to teaching Music Together was my lovely 18-month-old daughter Sienna who has been taking these classes since she was 6 months old. She loves the music and is gobbling it all up faster than we can dish it out. As a result, I’ve become a certified Music Together teacher and I hope to bring the same love, joy and enthusiasm I have for raising Sienna to my classroom.
